I feel in love with the cover of this book. (This picture doesn’t give it justice). It is vibrant indeed. Not only is this book vibrant, it is brilliant. It is personal and I feel like I have been let in to this world of this family and that I now hold their most secret elegant recipes. Each recipes seems to hold an array of techniques that come out in words as beautiful visions and images. Just reading the descriptions in each of the recipes made me feel as if Chitra was cooking right before my eyes. For example on page 76 she mentions, “Add 1 mustard seed, when the seed sizzles and pops add the rest of the mustard seeds”. How beautiful this description was to me, I could just imagine her standing in front of me waiting for that mustard seed to sizzle and pop as she shares her secrets of cooking with me. The book includes many other absolutely beautiful images of spices, food an even animals in a traditional sense. It was great to have a background of Chitra and her family before hand in order to get a better understanding of the reasons why they cook the way they do. I can’t wait to try some of these delicious vegetarian recipes!
